Interview with Tiffany
L. Warren, author of What a
Sista Should Do
SP: Welcome
to Soul Pen, Tiffany. Thank you for stopping by and talking with us
today.
Tiffany: Thank
you for having me!
SP: I
enjoyed reading your debut novel, What
a Sista Should Do. Once I began reading it, I could not put it
down until I finished the last page. One of the themes I related to and
I'm sure many others have also is that prayer not only can change a
situation but change our outlook. Tiffany, how has prayer impacted your
life?
Tiffany: Wow!
I'm glad you enjoyed the book! I have prayed my way out of so many
situations. When I say that, I mean that my faith is strengthened by
praying. I repeat the very Word of God--scripture verses--in my
prayers. This reminds me of God's promises never to leave or forsake
me, to heal, and to restore.
SP: Your
three leading ladies are very realistic. Tell us how you were able to
create them and give them such vibrant personalities.
Tiffany: Pam,
Taylor and Yvonne are like women we all know. I have observed and
played counselor to women with similar issues and more! As far as their
personalities go, they all have a little bit of my personality. Pam's
business saavy, Taylor's ghetto-fabulousness and Yvonne's old fashioned
take on marriage all come from me. We, as women, are definitely
chameleons.
SP: How long
did it take you to write What a Sista
Should Do? Were there ever times you felt discouraged and wanted
to stop writing this story?
Tiffany: It
took me about six months to write the initial draft. I started while I
was pregnant with my son and finished on maternity leave. This story
really poured out of me and I never experienced that fabled 'writer's
block'. There were times that I didn't know if I agreed with some of
the characters' paths, but I prayed and read a lot of my Bible during
the writing process.
SP: One of
your characters, Pam, rediscovers her passion for writing. Many writers
have completed their novels and are interested in pursuing publication.
What tips would you give those who want to take this step?
Tiffany: I
meet so many women who want to write! Everyone has a story. The first
step is to write the book. There's no way around that. But for those
who are interested in publishing, I would suggest that they do their
homework. I purchased the Guide to
Literary Agents to find out how to write a query letter and
locate agents who were interested in what I write.
SP: Tell the
readers of Soul Pen about your online ministry, Sista 2 Sista and how they can learn
more about it.
Tiffany: Sista 2
Sista is a message board located on my website
www.tiffanylwarren.com. I want my sisters in Christ across the U. S.
and beyond to come together in faith and encouragment. If we agree with
one another in prayer, there is nothing that we can't accomplish. I
know how important it is to have sister-friends to reach out to, who
won't judge you or put your business in the street. It is my prayer
that women can find prayer partners and encouragement on the Sista 2 Sista message board.
SP: Tiffany, once again that you for including us in your time.
Your book is a delightful addition to fiction and we look forward to
reading more from you.
Tiffany:
Thank you, and God bless!
